About Thoroughly Wood
Over 30 Years of Exceptional Cabinet Making
Thoroughly Wood is a family-run furniture maker founded in Kent in 1992. From the very beginning, our aim has been simple: to create exceptional kitchens and furniture using traditional cabinet-making skills, the finest materials and an uncompromising approach to quality.
What began with Mark Lineham and three ambitious apprentices has grown into an established team of highly skilled craftsmen with a wealth of experience and a shared passion for beautiful furniture.
More than 30 years later, that original spirit remains at the heart of Thoroughly Wood.
A Family Business Built on Craftsmanship
Today, Thoroughly Wood is led by Mark's son, Roan, who continues to work alongside members of the original team. Those three apprentices who started the journey with Mark have become true masters of their craft, bringing decades of knowledge and experience to every piece of furniture we create.
That continuity is important to us. Cabinet making is a skill that is learned over time, passed from one generation to the next and refined through years of hands-on experience.
We are proud to be traditional. We are proud to be independent. And we are determined to preserve the craftsmanship that makes genuinely bespoke furniture so special.
From Traditional Kitchens to Bespoke Furniture
Our early kitchens were predominantly Shaker in style, with solid timber cabinetry forming the foundations of the business. Since then, our approach has evolved considerably.
Today, we are renowned for creating beautifully designed bespoke kitchens and furniture that can be traditional, contemporary or somewhere wonderfully individual in between.
Our designers and cabinet makers work closely together to turn ideas into furniture that is made specifically for each home. Nothing is mass-produced or designed simply to fit a standard template.
Every project presents a new opportunity to combine proportion, materials, colour, function and craftsmanship in a way that feels completely personal.
Time-Honoured Skills, Modern Technology
While traditional craftsmanship remains central to everything we do, we also understand the value of modern technology.
We combine time-served cabinet-making techniques with modern manufacturing technology and precision, allowing our craftsmen to achieve the highest possible standards while retaining the character and individuality of genuinely handmade furniture.
Our substantial stock of carefully selected, kiln-dried timber gives us the opportunity to work with beautiful natural materials and create furniture with depth, character and longevity.
Our philosophy
Quality is in the Detail
We believe the difference between good furniture and exceptional furniture can be found in the details.
From the initial design through to the finished piece, we are meticulous about proportion, construction, materials and finish. Our craftsmen take pride in getting things right and continually looking for ways to improve.
For us, bespoke furniture isn't about following fashion. It is about creating something beautiful, functional and enduring that belongs in your home and can be appreciated for generations.
That is the Thoroughly Wood philosophy: exceptional design, exceptional craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to quality.
“the craftsmanship and attention to detail of all the hand built solid wood units is second to none.”
